This is a blog announcement for emerging and current middle leaders working in schools.
@TeachingLeaders announced today that I will be joining the Leadership Faculty. I am obviously delighted to be part of a national movement, helping develop leadership programmes for emerging middle leaders; Identifying and developing leadership talent in schools across the country. I am due to attend my first Leadership Faculty meeting in late June and cannot wait to get started.

Today, Teaching Leaders announced;
“Teaching Leaders is delighted to announce the appointment of two new members to its Leadership Faculty. Both Julie Slater and Ross McGill bring a wealth of valuable experience to the Faculty, which is led by Andy Buck, former director at the National College. – See more here.”
On joining the Leadership Faulty, I said;
“I am delighted to be joining the Leadership Faculty at Teaching Leaders. As a senior leader, I have been nominating my middle leaders for TL Fellows for over three years and have seen the impact of the programme first hand. Identifying and developing leadership talent is key to the success of our education system and I believe that this is best done across networks, both face-to-face or virtual.
As a member of the Leadership Faculty, I hope to bring to share my expertise in this area and galvanise middle leaders across the Teaching Leaders network and beyond, to spread excellent practice across the system.”

Andy Buck, Dean of the Leadership Faculty:
Andy has significant experience in education. He began his teaching career as a geography teacher, moving through middle and senior leadership, to headship in east London for thirteen years. In the last year of headship, his school was judged outstanding in all categories and Andy was designated National Leader of Education. In 2009 he became a Director at the National College for School Leadership, leading on the London Challenge programme. He was subsequently responsible for setting up the government’s flagship Teaching Schools programme. In 2012, he was appointed as Managing Director for Academies at United Learning.
Andy combines this with part-time roles as Dean of the Leadership Faculty at Teaching Leaders and as the Senior Leadership Advisor for United Learning. Andy is a Fellow of the RSA and has been a Board member for various organisations including the Teacher Training Agency, the National College for School Leadership and Partnerships for Schools. He is currently a Trustee for the Teacher Development Trust and the Teaching Awards.

Susan Douglas:
Since leaving headship in 2006, Susan has held a number of roles with a wide variety of national and international organisations including the British Council, the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) and Teaching Leaders. Since 2012, she has also held the role of Chief Executive Officer of the Eden Academy Trust in West London.
In her position as Senior Adviser at the British Council, Susan provides sector expertise and advice to a wide number of educational programmes involving ministries of education, school leaders, teachers and young people worldwide.
As CEO of the Eden Academy, Susan leads the board of a multi-Academy Trust. She was instrumental in the founding and development of the academy which provides education for children aged 3-19 with a range of complex needs. The Academy currently comprises five schools including a newly opened free school. At NCTL, Susan has worked closely with the senior leadership team providing policy advice and strategic services.

David Weston:
David Weston is the founder and Chief Executive of the Teacher Development Trust, the national charity for effective professional development in schools and colleges. He founded the Trust in 2012 after spending nine years as a secondary school maths and physics teacher and experiencing a growing frustration with the way that teachers are developed across the school system. Since its launch, David has steered the Trust to be one of the foremost voices in education on the subject of professional development.
In March 2015 he was appointed by the Department for Education as Chair of the Teachers’ Professional Development Expert Group. He has written extensively in the TES, Guardian, SecEd and a number of other education journals and newspapers and speaks frequently on teacher development. He has had a number of radio and TV appearances speaking about teaching, teacher development and LGBT issues. He works closely with stakeholders across the sector including government ministers and policy makers and has been a key driver behind a new College of Teaching.
David’s background includes consultancy around effective use of data in schools and he has written textbook materials in mathematics and physics. David is currently a primary school governor in North London and a secondary school governor in Watford. He is also an advocate for LGBT teachers and is the founder of OutTeacher.org.
