How often is your work recognised outside of your sector?

Context:

There are hundreds of great education bloggers in the UK; thousands more across the world!

In 2013, I was voted as the Number 1 Education Blog in the UK. One year later, Cision UK (now Vuelio) awarded me with the accolade again, but in 2014 I queried the validity; Top 10 UK Education Blogs Or Not? This wasn’t to say that I was ungrateful, I just wanted to know how reliable the methodology was for sourcing the data and social media analytics.

That blog prompted a response and a one-to-one phone call with Vuelio; How Does Vuelio Decide Its Top-Ten Ranking? A reference to a database was quoted once more and to this day, the methodology remains private.

So, how does Vuelio ranking work?

Vuelio uses a proprietary algorithm to rank all the media in our database. For the rankings, we put (usually) the ten most influential blogs in order, after the automated results have been carefully reviewed by our team of in-house researchers. The methodology takes into consideration a number of factors including social sharing, topic-related content, post frequency, social media influence, traffic, design and interactivity.”

Originally, I argued that Vuelio, in comparison to the wonderful Teach 100, do not provide context to explain how bloggers are ranked and scored.

Then, just when I had forgotten about all the fuss I had created, Vuelio kindly nominated me (August 2015) for another UK bloggers award and yet again, listed my blog at the number one spot (for the third time in a row); Top 10 UK Education Blogs.

Awards Ceremony:

Over the past 3-6 months, Vuelio (formerly Cision UK) have rebranded themselves and overhauled their website. If you’ve read their blogger spotlights, you’ll know that bloggers are important to Vuelio. Their blog is full of content form a variety of sectors.

Next week, Vuelio will be hosting their Inaugural Blog Awards, hosted by comedian and TV presenter @MrMarkDolan. The evening will reflect and reward the various, vital contributions – societal, commercial and cultural – that UK bloggers are making every day. The awards will take place on 27th November at the Brewery near London’s Barbican Centre and event promises to be a hyper-glam evening.

I’ll just had to dig out my tweed jacket!

Shortlist:

You can view the shortlisted bloggers here and the judging panel here.

I will post photographs of the evening here.
